“For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not remembered the rock of your refuge. Therefore you plant delightful plants and set them with vine slips of a strange god.”
This verse was a fitting conclusion to my week last week and refreshing reminder as I begin this new week. Simply put, when we do not remember the Lord nor recall what He has done in our lives, we easily slip into idolatry. The Israelites did not obey the Lord by recalling to mind what He had done for them. As a result, they fell into idolatry and began to care more about cultivating their gardens than cultivating their relationship with God. Similarly, when we do not purposefully meditate on what our Savior has done for us it is easy to elevate ourselves and/or unimportant things.
Matthew Henry aptly commented on this passage: “The God of our salvation is the Rock of our strength; and our forgetfulness and unmindfulness of him are at the bottom of all sin.”
– Spend two minutes recalling what the Lord has done for you.
