Most of us plan our dream weddings on a budget that was probably not in our dreams! But with all the resources that are available to us, it is quite feasible to have a lovely wedding on a small budget. Here are a few more tips to help you save:
Shop for items at stores that do NOT specialize in wedding items – Stores and websites that specialize in wedding items charge ridiculous amounts of money for things that can be found in regular stores. Somehow when you put “wedding” or “bridal” in the title, it suddenly becomes much more expensive. Keep your eyes open for things that would work for your wedding in stores that are not known for their wedding merchandise. For instance, we found our flower girl dress at Kohls for $25 and our Mother-of-the-bride dress for around $60 at JCPenneys. Additionally, we got all of our bridesmaids and flower girl shoes at Payless!
Buy things online – these days you can find everything online. It is such a competitive market that you can always find a good deal. We found online a inexpensive grapevine heart garland that we used down the aisle. On a side note, using a grapevine garland is a good example of a principle from the last article: Thinking outside of the box. Because we did not use the traditional ribbon, fabric or flowers on the aisle decor, we saved a lot of money.
Finally, really do it yourself – If you really want to save money, you will have to be willing to take risks and do something yourself. I finally realized that it would be cheaper for me to buy all new makeup and do my makeup myself. It didn’t turn out half bad and at the end of the day, I was left with lots of new makeup to use in the future. Plus if you have a great photographer, they can make you look way better than you do in real life!!
At the end of the day though, our wedding is just a day. What matters is that we have honored the Lord throughout the process and on that special day. Read this article to be challenged about what if we spent all the time and energy we did on our wedding on our relationship with the Lord?
In other news, I got my first sewing machine! I am excited to use it for many more Trash2Treasure Tuesdays to come!
